When your clothes start to get snug and you realize that your weight is creeping up, your first instinct might be that you need to go on another diet. Or worse, do a detox to jump start your weight loss to get where you want to be. But that’s the last thing you need to change your body and get your clothes to fit the way you want them to.
Because to diet is by definition is to “restrict yourself to small amounts or special kinds of food in order to lose weight.” And this means that at some point, you’re going to go back to eating “normally” and the weight will come right back. And there’s more to it than that.
Here are three other reasons that diets are the last thing you need to change your body…
#1 Diets don’t help you change your body long-term
As you know, losing weight is one thing and keeping it off is another entirely. And the relationship between the two is that you need to keep doing the same things you did to lose weight to keep the weight off.
It’s like with business, when you find something that works to bring in more clients, you’re not going to stop doing that just because you’ve found some success. You’re going to double down and keep doing what’s working and then keep tweaking to get better results out of it.
You’re not going to go back to doing the things you were doing when your clients were few and far between.
And with what you need to lose weight and change your body, the same rules apply.
So if you’re looking for the next diet to help you get the weight off or jump start your weight loss, you’re going to need to accept that the weight will come back when you return to your normal habits.
#2 Diets don’t help you eat in a way that supports the life you have
Diets usually have very specific requirements like:
- Cut carbs
- Eat 6 small meals
- Cut the dairy
- Eat mostly fat…
These requirements may work for some people, but not for everyone especially if you’re balancing business and family. You’re not going to be able to make time for some of the complicated meal prep and precision measuring that comes with diets like these.
What ends up happening is that you spend a short period of time going hard on the diet to change your body now. But you’ll inevitably go back to your old habits because they work for the life you have.
To support your boss lady hustle, you need to be able to :
- know how to eat healthy on the fly;
- eat healthy regardless of whether you’re in the comfort zone of your kitchen or if you’re eating out while networking to advance your goals;
- and do it consistently to get results and maintain the results that you get.
Most diets don’t do that.
If you’re able to craft an eating pattern that you can do regardless of how crazy your life gets, you can avoid the yo-yo cycle of losing and gaining the same weight over and over.

#3 Diets can hurt your productivity if you choose the wrong one
Staying at the top of your game to continue to drive success in your business means that you need to have the energy and focus to do it. If you’re cutting carbs drastically to get to your goal, you’re going to struggle. At least at first.
Your body runs on glucose and the most efficient way to get this glucose is from carbs. Yes your body can work with fat or protein and eventually get it there, but it’s going to have to work harder to get the energy you need to crush your goals.
What this means is that your body is going to spend more time getting what it needs to support you through your day. And you’re not going to be working at your best while you get used to using these inefficient sources of energy.
This doesn’t mean that you should eat all the carbs. What it means is that there’s a way to give your body what it needs to support your goals while still getting the weight loss results that you want.
And I’m not just picking on the carbs here. Any diet that asks you to cut whole food groups out or cut them down drastically can cause nutrient deficiencies that can impact your productivity!
